Access statement for Wadworth Brewery Visitor Centre
The Wadworth Brewery Visitor Centre is a new build completed in December 2007 which was designed with accessibility in mind.
We aim to provide an excellent service to all visitors and to ensure that all our guests receive an outstanding and memorable experience.

We are 5 minutes from the town’s main bus depot which has regular links to the county’s main railway stations.
Brown tourist signs direct traffic from all main routes into the town
The Visitor Centre external signage is clearly visible
Arrival and Car Parking
We have a free car park directly in front of the Visitor Centre entrance
We have a disabled parking bay.
The route from the car park to the Visitor Centre entrance is flat
Coach parking is available by prior arrangement
Main Entrance & Reception
The main entrance/ exit doors are automatic sliding doors which open to 130cm wide
The reception has a low level front desk 72cm high, for easy communication to wheelchair users
Entry to the Visitor Centre exhibition, shop and bar is free
Public Areas – General (Internal)
The floor on the ground floor level, upper corridors and toilets is stone tiled
There are 7 steps onto the mezzanine bar which are 16cm high by 31cm deep. There are handrails at each side.
There is a Stannah lift onto the mezzanine which will carry 2 people or 1 person and 1 wheelchair. Rated load 400kg. The width of the doorway is 105cm
Public Areas – WC
The toilets are situated on the mezzanine and accessible via the stairs or the lift
There is one male toilet, one female toilet and one accessible toilet
The accessible toilet meets all DDA guidelines
There is an alarm call system fitted in the accessible toilet.
Baby changing facilities are available in the disabled toilet
The exhibition area is all on one flat, level surface
The Timeline Interpretation board features large text and has pictorial representation. The boards are 270 cm high.
The ‘Cooper’s exhibition’ features 5 wooden casks of varying sizes (from 41cm high to 94cm high)
The ‘Raw ingredients of beer’ display is a wooden cask 70cm with plastic cups containing samples of different hops and malts for people to touch, smell and taste.
There is one 80cm (32”) touch screen featuring a short film about the Wadworth Cooper, which is 4 minutes long and shown on a loop. The film shows how a wooden cask is made and has audio and well as visual.
The ‘Brewery Lightbox’ is an interactive model of the Victorian brew-
The Shire horse exhibition area consists of a large interpretation board 270cm high featuring an image of a Shire horse with interactive, magnetic labels with the names of the parts of the body which can be placed on the horse.
There is a 142cm (56”) screen showing a 10 minutes film clip ‘A year in the life of a Wadworth Shire horse’ on a loop. The screen also features a text field displaying Shire horse facts and also a slide show of the horses in action.
The shop area can be found at the end of the exhibition and is on the ground level.
The retail area features the following:
o 2 x portable display units 145cm high by 117cm long and 60cm high.
o 2 x barrel displays 93cm high
o A beer display area 100cm high with carry cases stored below
o A clothing display area 222cm high hanging rails at 178cm and shelving units underneath at 70cm height.
Staff are always on hand to help and advise in the shop
Payment can be made by cash, cheque or credit card, or Brewery gift vouchers.
We have a portable credit card machine.
The bar is situated on the mezzanine and can be accessed via the stairs or the lift.
Flooring in bar is wooden
There are a number of tables, chairs and stools available for customer use. The bar can seat 30 people or there is room for 40 standing.
The Visitor Centre is fully licensed
The bar stocks 5 cask ales on draught, all Wadworth seasonal ales in bottle and soft drink, tea and coffee for under18s and drivers.
We operate a responsible drinking policy
Visitors registered disabled and accompanied by a carer who wish to partake in the tour* will be charged full price admission but the carer can accompany them for free.
Service dogs are welcome in the Visitor Centre. We provide a water bowl at the front entrance
We operate a no smoking policy. We provide a sand bin at the front entrance.
Our staff are trained to use the equipment and have attended the ‘Welcome All’ course.

* Visitors must be able to negotiate steep, narrow staircases and be able to evacuate
the building quickly and safely in the case of an emergency.
